Experience of Japanese Culture
Invitation to “Chinshin-ryu” Tea Ceremony Experience

We are preparing to offer our guests from all over the world to experience a tea ceremony as experience of Japanese culture during this convention, WCOS2012.

Tea ceremony to have the origin toward China of the mid-eighth century had been developed uniquely in Japan since 15th century, and was perfected by Sen No Rikyu in the 16th century as “Composite Art”. The art can be explained as quality time, which means cherished time when the host and guests spend together during the entire ceremony and is also brought by “a once-in-a-lifetime chance”. Afterward, tea ceremony has been developing with distinctive features through Rikyu’s pupils throughout Japan.

Chinshin-ryu is one of the so-called warrior’s tea ceremony groups and has been passed on for over 300 years in Nagasaki. It was initiated by MATSURA Chinshin (1622-1703), the 29th head of the Matsuura clan. Chinshin was the Daimyo feudal lord who presided over the Hizen Hirado fief, headquartered at what is now Hirado City in Nagasaki prefecture.

Students from Nagasaki International University learning Chinshin-ryu are planning to perform the tea ceremony for you and you will enjoy maccha, powdered green tea. The summary is shown as below. We hope you will have a wonderful experience at this opportunity.
